Objectives

  • Recognize the common symptom of constipation in the pediatric population and be able to explain its pathophysiology to families.
  • Identify red flags that warrant investigation for organic illness
  • Confidently apply both pharmacological and non-pharmacological techniques in the management of chronic constipation in children

Questions

  • Thank you for your presentation. Do you have any practical tips on how to give laxaday for kids who are very picky? (They see the refraction of PEG in juice or water; they feel the texture that is different when it is added to liquids. And they outright refuse to take it.). How can we make it more palatable? Are the other agents (lactulose, Mag OH) easier to "conceal" or more palatable?
